APPLIES TO: MODEL 1 AND 2 EMBOSSERS

Check to ensure that there is a Generic Text Only printer has been installed onto the correct port – DO NOT LET WINDOWS SET THIS TO BE THE DEFAULT PRINTER EVEN IF IT IS THE ONLY PRINTER ON THE SYSTEM. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS INSTALL ANY OTHER PRINTER AND MAKE THIS THE DEFAULT. This is essential for the True Type Fonts to work properly (BrailleMaker uses True Type fonts in the Editor)

Index embossers prior to September 2002 WILL NOT print to an ECP or EPP port. This can be changed in the BIOS. Each system varies as to where this is located, but the printer port should be set to SPP. This is the older models which only have parallel and serial ports. Newer USB and networked models should be able to print to ECP.

When an embosser is shared on a switch box with a printer, ensure that the printer is not using a status monitor (Hewlett Packard and Epson usually have these as do other manufacturers).

Avoid use of the serial port. They are difficult to setup, and it can take a lot of effort to get the embosser to work. If necessary, connect the embosser to the parallel port and use a USB to parallel cable to connect the printer.

You also need to set the printer in Braille Maker. Run from Programs and select Settings from the Braille Maker menu. Select printer and choose the generic text only printer previously set up.
